Al Simmons, once the U.S. government's greatest soldier and most effective assassin, was mercilessly executed by his own men. Resurrected from the ashes of his own grave in a flawed agreement with the powers of darkness, Simmons is reborn as a creature from the depths of Hell. Disfigured, homeless and alone, this warrior now known as Spawn wanders the shadowy alleys of New York City in search of his past life.
This Issue: "Asunder, Part 1." Al Simmons has been having trouble sleeping. He wakes up in strange places with no memory of what has transpired. The newspapers are rife with bizarre tales of macabre violence. Simmons is forced to reach a troubling conclusion: His Spawn persona has started acting on its own. Now, Simmons must find away to regain control over the darkest part of himself. But how does a man wrestle with his own demon?
