This is a 72 player capacity two-day tournament for Warhammer 40,000 8th Edition.
It will consist of 5 rounds, 3 on Saturday and two on Sunday, with each round being 3 hours in length.
All Codexes, FAQs, Matched Play game rules, and Beta Rules introduced by May 1st 2019 will be allowed.
Only Battle Forged armies will be allowed, and there is a maximum of three detachments.
Army lists must be submitted to the tournament organizers no later than May 1st, 2019.
The registration fee for Warzone: Atomic Empire is $50. There will be no refunds issued for registration fees after May 1st.
Warzone: Atomic Empire is a Warzone-branded event. This means that it is a hobby-centric event that focuses on all aspects of the Warhammer 40,000 hobby and intends to create an environment of camaraderie and fun for all those involved.
Warzone: Atomic Empire will use the Warzone: Atlanta mission pack currently available on the Warzone: Atlanta website. However, Warzone: Atomic Empire will use the deployment and first turn rules found in the Eternal War Missions printed in Chapter Approved 2018. The printed packet available on the day of the tournament will reflect this.
The Best Coast Pairings Application will be used for pairing purposes only. ITC points will be submitted, but only for overall standings.
The prizes for the event will be based around six categories: Battle, Sportsmanship, Appearance, Theme, Overall, and Bounties.
Battle: Warzone: Atomic Empire is a Battle Points event. Each mission awards players a certain number of battle points based on the mission objectives achieved.
Warmaster: This prize will be awarded to the player with the highest battle score at the end of five rounds.
Grouping Champions: Starting on day 2, players will be organized into an even number of groups based on their battle scores from day 1. These do not affect pairings in any way and simply exist as a way to give out more prizes. At the end of round 5, players will compare their day-two scores to the others in their grouping. The person in each grouping with the highest score will win a prize.
Sportsmanship: This will be a player voting system nearly identical to the one used in Warzone: Atomic Empire 2018, which you may read about in the Sportsmanship section of the General Information link in the sidebar.
Appearance: Players’ armies will be scored on the quality of their appearance using a rubric similar to what was used last year. See the General Information link for reference.
Master Artisan: This award is for the army with the highest score on the appearance rubric. In the case of multiple maximum scores, the winner will be decided by the Warzone: Atomic Empire event staff.
Theme: This award exists for those players building armies for the love of the hobby. It rewards players for how much their army adheres to the following statement:
“This army brings to life a unique aspect of the Warhammer 40,000 hobby and is a joy to behold.”
While tied to the overall appearance of an army, this award is not tied to the painting rubric and will reward unique armies that amaze and inspire those who see them. More specific details will follow in the Warzone: Atomic Empire tournament packet. Due to this being a new award, Theme will NOT be part of the overall award, and will simply be a separate way to win prizes.
Lore Master: This award is for the player with the highest theme score.
Overall: Overall score is determined by the combined total of a player’s Battle Score, Appearance Score, and Sportsmanship Score, with each category contributing equally. This is the score that will be used to determine placings for the event and used to submit ITC points.
The Sigillite: This award is for the player with the highest overall score.
Bounties: These are special prizes awarded to players throughout the tournament for completing specific tasks. They can be announced in many different ways, such as over the microphone, posted on the electronic displays throughout the room, or even written on a physical poster at the event. They may involve specific in-game actions, such as being the first player in the room to destroy a Titanic Unit with your warlord, or may challenge you outside of the table, such as requiring you to get a selfie with Thomas Byrd. They provide a non-standard way for players to enjoy the event and win prizes of many different varieties.
Bounty Hunter: This is the prize for the player that wins the most bounties.
Registration is now open, and the full tournament packet will be available as soon as we are able to get it together. In the meantime, please look to the packet used last year located in the sidebar.
This year’s event will be very similar.
